Student Dress Code

While students are all afforded the right to appropriate expression, they also have a right to an education. Although dress is a matter of self-expression and is influenced by weather and fashion trends, certain items and styles are not acceptable for fostering a positive learning environment.

The following items are inappropriate and are not to be brought or worn to school or to school sponsored events:

  1. Clothing that is overly revealing or sexually suggestive. The midriff, back, chest, or buttocks should not be exposed. Shirts/tops must have a strap over each shoulder and the bottom of shirts/tops must meet or be longer than the top of the pants so that the midriff is not exposed. No halters, tubes or single shoulder strap shirts are allowed.
  2. No undergarments may be visible when in normal posture (sitting or standing).
  3. Clothing that has a derogatory message.
  4. Clothing that promotes, suggests, or depicts violence.
  5. Trench coats and dusters.
  6. Clothing that displays drugs, alcohol, or illegal activity.
  7. Any item that could be an endangerment or utilized as a weapon (i.e. spikes and chains)
  8. Electronic devices (cell phones, pagers, game playing devices, music players) can only be used by the permission of the faculty. Any items that become a distraction in class can be taken away by any RVHS staff member to be returned at a later time.
  9. Sunglasses may not be worn in the building.
  10. Hats are to be removed at any staff member's request.
  11. Shoes must be worn at all times.
In order to maintain the academic focus and promote safety in our school, Ralston Valley High School requests that students comply with the above dress code as well as any regulations from Jefferson County Schools and the State of Colorado . If a student is in violation of the above rules, he/she will be asked to abide by any decision made by staff members and/or the administration about questionable items. Ralston Valley High School appreciates student cooperation in this matter.
